Homeless man slashed a woman's face in Manhattan furious he was on the streets despite 32 prior arrests



The shaken victim said The crazed homeless man who slashed a young woman across the face shouldn’t have been loose on the streets.

Amanda Morris, 24, was assaulted while walking to work in Manhattan the day before,
She could barely speak without blood bubbling from the stitches around her mouth.


“I think he should be behind bars for a long time,” she said of homeless man Kari Bazemore, 41.

“Because he's done this before and he was arrested initially and they apparently let him go. And I don't understand why,” she told the Daily News from her Brooklyn apartment.

She added, “I just felt like I was kind of robbed. He should have been behind bars by now. Because he's been arrested like 32 times.”


Bazemore allegedly attacked Morris outside a diner on W. 23rd St. and 7th Ave. She suffered two one-inch slash wounds on her face.

The 41-year-old with a long rap sheet was bizarrely silent during the terrifying incident, Morris said.

“I never heard his voice and I never saw his face,” she said. “He never heard my voice or saw my face either.”

She said she saw that he was walking in an “unsteadily” manner as she approached him from behind on the sidewalk. Bazemore slowed down to let her get closer in the moments before his attack, she said.

“As soon as he heard that I was behind him he was slowing down and I wanted to walk past him but he was kind of walking the same pace as me,” she said.

Amanda Morris was slashed in the face Wednesday while walking to work in Chelsea.

In a matter of seconds, Bazemore had sliced her face and run off, she said.

She ran into the Malibu Diner with blood running from her wounds. Someone helped her walk to the nearby Whole Foods, where she works in the pricing unit, and call 911.

A good Samaritan recognized Bazemore as he walked near St. Patrick’s Cathedral,Around 6 p.m. that same day, thanks to the surveillance footage police released after the attack.

She followed the suspect and alerted a pair of mounted NYPD officers. They used their radios to transmit the description.

Bazemore was taking into custody by Cops from the Midtown North Precinct at 11:10 p.m., and he was charged with felony assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
