Between Arms Deal Scandal And Confessions In South West

It was revealed that $2.1bn arms funds meant for procurement of arms to secure the country ended up in the pockets of some Nigerians, including some South West leaders has since cast doubt as to whether those allegedly involved in the sharing of the funds are truly patriots or mere political merchants, writes GEORGE OKOJIE


Are we to say that Nigerians have failed to identify with an enduring philosophy, which has affected their sense of patriotism, the ‘Omoluabi’ factor which is a Yoruba philosophical and cultural concept to describe a person of good character and integrity in this country?

The accusation of some highly respected Afenifere leader, Chief Olu Falae and Senator Rashidi Ladoja, the former Governor of Oyo state in the arms funds scandal and the series of confessions that followed had since raised eyebrows of Nigerians about the true status of these men. the activities of these leaders who take delight in grabbing and sharing of the nationalcake at will.

The Masses wonder how on earth anyone will explain that he benefited from $2.1 billion arms fund allegedly shared among politicians during the 2015 elections,is this not shameful to explain?

Thus, it was not surprising when the former presidential candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) and All Peoples Party (APP) chieftain, Chief Falae had to explain to worshippers at St. David’s Cathedral, Ijomu street, Akure how he got involved in the massive diversion and looting of security funds.

As his fellow worshippers frown on his conduct, he was constrained to explain to the Bishop of Akure Anglican Diocese, Right Reverend Simeon Borokini how he got involved and went as far as showing him papers on the transfer made to him by Chief Tony Anenih in a bid to explain his innocence.

The bubble burst on the South West leaders when former Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tony Anenih, shed light on the controversial N260 million he received from the embattled former National Security Adviser (NSA), Colonel Sambo Dasuko (retd) during former President Goodluck Jonathan administration.
