Bus boy rewarded for returning $3,000 he found while working at Colorado diner: ‘Merry Christmas to super-honest guy’

A selfless busboy was working at a Colorado diner when he came across an envelope filled with $3,000.

Johnny “Thumper” Duckworth has worked at Randy’s Southside Diner in Grand Junction, Colo., for nine years, his boss Randy Emmons told KKCO.“He’s one of the hardest-working guys I've ever met,” Emmons told the TV station.

As Duckworth was washing dishes and making sure the diner was clean for customers, he stumbled upon the envelope. He brought it over to Emmons who found 30 $100 bills in the envelope.

Despite the fact that he could definitely use the money, Duckworth was not going to keep something that didn’t belong to him.“It’s not mine,” he told KKCO.

I work for a living. I make money.”The owner of the envelope, regular patron Darrell Cox, returned to the restaurant Thursday.

“He was here at the counter, and I was back at the booth with one of my grandsons,” Cox told the station.“I wrote him a note on the back of an envelope. It said, ‘Merry Christmas to a super-honest guy.’”

Cox's nephew reportedly approached Duckworth and handed him $300 from the same envelope that contained the $3,000.“Makes me feel a lot better about people,” Cox said.
