Construction worker dies after falling from 53rd floor of skyscraper

A Los Angeles construction worker has died after falling from the 53rd floor of a future skyscraper.

The unidentified man landed on a hatchback that was traveling on the road hundreds of feet below and was pronounced dead at the scene earlier Thursday morning.

A woman in the car was taken to the hospital, and was in stable condition early Friday morning after the terrifying incident.

The worker, an electrician, was on the second day of his job at the Wilshire Grand Center, which will be the tallest building west of the Mississippi River at 1,100ft — 73 stories — when it is finished.

Turner Construction Company told KTLA that workplace safety investigators said the tragic said was “not work-related” and there were no violations of fall protection policies.

Work at the site will be stopped on Friday out of respect for the workers.

The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health is investigating the death
