Man killed in hit-and-run after jumping out of moving ambulance that was transporting him

51-year-old Frank Ligrnetta was killed in a hit-and-run after jumping out of an ambulance
A 51-year-old man being transported to a Long Island hospital jumped out of the moving ambulance and was killed by a hit-and-run, officials said Tuesday.

Frank Ligrnetta, of Bay Shore, was being transferred from Stony Brook University Hospital to Brunswick Hospital Center in Amityville when he leapt out of the back of the ambulance on Nicholls Rd. in Holtsville about 6:55 p.m. Monday.

He was immediately hit by a dark-colored sedan heading in the same direction as the ambulance and died at the scene.

Cops are now looking for the driver of the sedan, who sped off.
