Kidnap suspect–DSS forced me to implicate Ibori

Former Delta State governor, James Ibori

One of the four persons charged with the abduction of Mike Ozekhome (SAN) in 2013 yesterday told a Federal High Court in Abuja that his statement indicting former Delta governor James Ibori was obtained under duress.

Kelvin Oniarah Ezeigbe stated that following his arrest by the Department of State Services (DSS) along with his gang members on September 25, 2013, he was forced to re-copy a handwritten statement confessing that they are working for the political interest of the former governor.

Led in evidence under trial-within-trial by defence counsel Bala Takum, Oniarah stated that he was arrested at a hotel in Port Harcourt and then blindfolded by the DSS.
He said the department used various weapons such as cutlasses, cables, and pliers to effect bodily injuries on him.
