CBN Extends BVN Registration For Nigerian Banks’ Customers Abroad

Four days after the deadline for Nigerian banks’ customers abroad to enroll for the Bank Verification Number (BVN) elapsed, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has further extended it by six months.

A statement issued yesterday by the apex bank and signed by the director of Banking Supervision, ‘Dipo Fatokun, stated that the deadline for the registration and linkage of accounts has been extended from January 31, 2016, to June 30, 2016.

This, the CBN said, was because it had “observed through a recent survey, the low percentage of the registration of Nigerian banks’ customers in the diaspora which may be attributed to lack of accessibility and unavailability of of registration centres in some cities where the Nigerian community population is high.”

To this end it listed 30 centres where they can register for their BVNs, adding that plans are on to deploy more centres in locations with high population. It, therefore, enjoined Nigerian banks’ customers who are yet to comply to do so before the end of the new deadline.

In the United States of America, centres have been cited in Washington DC, Atlanta, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, and San Fransisco. In the United Kingdom, two centres were cited in London as well a Leicester and Manchester. There is also a center in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates as well as Johannesburg and Cape Town in South Africa.
