Super wriggly: Earthworms don't usually grow bigger than around 4g
Massive worms which grow to the size of a small snake and are as heavy as mice have been discovered on a “barren island” in Scotland.
Some of the animals were 16ins long and weighed a whopping 12.5g, making them the largest earthworms in Britain, according to researchers.
They were found in Papadil, an abandoned settlement on the Isle of Rum, and were three to four times bigger than the average worm.
The project’s lead researcher Dr Kevin Butt agreed that the findings were “slightly spooky”, whilst speaking on BBC Radio.
