Donald Trump name-drops Monica Lewinsky as he ramps up Bill Clinton attacks: 'There was certainly a lot of abuse of women'

He finally went there.

Presidential candidate Donald Trump blasted Bill Clinton's track record with women, dredging up names such as Monica Lewinsky for the first time during this election cycle in a Tuesday interview on "Today." The real estate mogul seeks to undermine the former President's credibility with female voters, as his wife Hillary campaigns for the 2016 election.

"There was certainly a lot of abuse of women. You look at whether it's Monica Lewinsky or Paula Jones or many of them, and that certainly will be fair game, certainly if they play the women's card with respect to me, that will be fair game," Trump said.

Trump's definition of "abuse" isn't clear. Bill Clinton acknowledged in 1998 that he had a sexual relationship with Lewinsky when she was a White House intern. He also reached a settlement after Jones filed a sexual harassment lawsuit — but he never acknowledged wrongdoing in the matter.

Trump's accusations are curious, given his own history — including his very public affair with Marla Maples, whom he later married. The relationship ended in a 1997 divorce.

Bill and Hillary Clinton are facing attacks from Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

fact that he's campaigning for her, he failed in 2008, he failed really badly, he did a very poor job in campaigning, if you wanna know the truth. Perhaps he'll do well, and perhaps he'll do poorly. But if she's going to play the women card, it's all fair game," he told Savannah Guthrie.

Beyond the Clintons, Trump is also blasting the New Hampshire Union Leader, after the newspaper ran an editorial by publisher Joe McQuaid comparing Trump to Biff Tannen, the bully in the "Back to the Future" films.

Trump responded at a Monday night rally in Nashua, calling McQuaid a "low-life" and deriding the publication.

"You have a very dishonest newspaper up here. It's also a failing newspaper. It's going down the tubes," Trump said, comparing it to a grocery store coupon sheet.
